BarSculpt Basics Workshop Saturday, April 13th, 11-12:30pm with Leslie Guerin Canto Cost: $30 per person
Peace of Mind Pilates is very excited to welcome Leslie, creator of BarSculpt, for a very special workshop. Leslie sculpted this barre class after teaching barre with the Lotte Berk Method and then discovering and mastering Pilates. She has been teaching fitness for 20 years, is an accomplished studio owner, and has been a teacher of teachers for the past 12 years. BarSculpt classes are best described as an energizing group fitness class that uses a ballet barre and one's own body to build strength and increase flexibility, resulting in a sculpted form with enhanced balance, posture and vitality. BarSculpt merges traditional barre with contemporary Pilates and keeps the body in one's BEST anatomically correct posture at all times.
This BarSculpt basics workshop will follow the same sequence of exercises as the hour long class, but will take extra time with each exercise, thus making it perfect for clients new to the class as well as long time barre enthusiasts.
TRE® & Yoga workshop Saturday, May 18th, 3:30-5:30 pm with Joann cost: $30 per person
This practice combines yoga & TRE® which stimulates the body’s natural, therapeutic shaking response. This shaking response in humans, much the same as the instinctual shaking in animals (read: dog in a thunderstorm), is the nervous system’s way of discharging long-held tension, or unconscious muscle contractions held in the body (sometimes as a result of accumulated stress, trauma, injury, surgery, or habitual contraction patterns/poor posture) in order to restore the body to a felt sense of wholeness. When the nervous system identifies threat, vibration or shaking in the body is designed to occur automatically. However, negative social constructs and beliefs around what it means to allow ourselves to shake, tremor, or show vulnerability, condition us out of this innate release mechanism at a very early age. TRE® reawakens our body’s intrinsic release mechanism for optimal health.
TRE® & Yoga is a simple, gentle and profound practice that facilitates the lengthening and relaxation of the psoas muscle and the release of physical and emotional stress and tension. During this TRE® & Yoga workshop, you will learn about the stress response, polyvagal theory and how yoga and TRE can support a healthy nervous system. I will then guide you through a series of exercises and yoga postures designed to elicit the tremor response. TRE is intended to be used as a self-help method that is easily learned, has immediate effects and can be integrated into a simple daily routine to help restore a sense of inner-peace and relaxation. This method is based on Dr. David Berceli’s technique of Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises® (TRE®). www.traumaprevention.com Pre registration required. Space is limited. Please register your email for pre-class communications from the instructor.
Beginner Pilates Tuesdays, 6-6:50 pm with Stephanie
Pilates offers a low impact but effective way to strengthen and tone muscles. Each exercise emphasizes breath, body awareness and core conditioning. Through Pilates, you can learn to strengthen weak muscles and correct your posture. Even those who haven't exercised in many years can achieve a degree of flexibility they have not enjoyed since their twenties. Through this class we will work together at a comfortable pace. There will be modifications made and props used. This is a great place to start to learn correct moves or to bring yourself back to the basics. Although this is geared towards beginners, we welcome all levels.
